Objectives:
- To review the regulation of hematopoiesis and causes of anemia, discuss the prevalence and types of anemia in patients receiving long-term PN and discuss the strategy in treating iron deficiency anemia
- To review functions and metabolism, daily requirements, high risk populations, deficiency symptoms and PN considerations related to thiamine and copper
- To review trace element deficiency as it relates to PN component shortages and approaches to managing drug shortages
