Summary: Micronutrient deficiency, identification and supplementation during an era of shortages: Focus on iron, thiamine, copper and other trace elements in patients dependent on parenteral nutrition. This webinar is made possible through an educational grant from Baxter Healthcare.

Objectives:

  1. To review the regulation of hematopoiesis and causes of anemia, discuss the prevalence and types of anemia in patients receiving long-term PN and discuss the strategy in treating iron deficiency anemia
  2. To review functions and metabolism, daily requirements, high risk populations, deficiency symptoms and PN considerations related to thiamine and copper 
  3. To review trace element deficiency as it relates to PN component shortages and approaches to managing drug shortages
